Hi, I’m Leigh Ann Smith.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and an Academic Advisor with extensive experience. I have been in Private Practice since 2002 assisting clients experiencing issues including anxiety, relationships, stress, transitions and academics, to name a few. Previously, I served as the Director of TCU Athletic Academics.
As life and higher education continues to grow more complex, finding the right help can become increasingly difficult. My goal is to support clients in exploring and finding the path that is most beneficial for their life circumstance.
COUNSELING
My Approach to Counseling
As an Adlerian counselor, I help clients identify and understand mistaken beliefs by exploring their lifestyle, family constellation, and early recollections in relation to their current circumstances. Together, we will establish mutually agreed-upon goals, and I will empower and equip you to create positive change and work toward achieving your goals for a healthy, happy life.
Entering counseling may feel scary, but it doesn't have to be. We will work at a pace that is comfortable for you and discuss topics when you feel ready. It is not my job to tell you what to do, but rather to help you gain the insight needed to make decisions that fit your life circumstances.
ACADEMIC ADVISING
My Approach to Academic Advising
I begin working with students prior to their arrival on campus, guiding them through orientation and exploring summer options before they start their college journey.
Plan it
I work with your student to explore potential majors and identify the necessary courses for each respective program. Additionally, I assist in planning and managing the student's academic progress throughout their college journey, ensuring consistent advancement toward graduation.
Execute it
I meet with students every week to review their coursework, develop a plan for the upcoming week, and address any challenges they may be facing. Our meetings often include brainstorming ideas for assignments, troubleshooting challenging situations, connecting students with tutors — basically anything that comes up during the week.
